The #SistersLiftingasWeClimb Community recently secured a $10,000 grant from the Poise Basis to launch a creating cohort aimed at making their initially e book: The Realities of Black Women—Dismantling Fake Narratives of Black Girls in America.
The Realities of Black Gals is composed by 10 good Black girls from all walks of daily life, with a foreword by Dr. Valerie Kinlock. These remarkable girls have long gone above and outside of to provide their people and communities when going through terrific adversities. These women of all ages are relentless in their pursuit of equality. Even with the boundaries and hardships that each individual female has faced, they are however discovering approaches to prosper.

Marie K. Norman, PhD, of the Institute for Scientific Investigate Education at the University of Pittsburgh is passionate about democratic engagement. In recognition that democracy is a “use it or eliminate it” business, she started out a Facebook-centered grassroots activist group in 2016 named The Buy of the Phoenix, named immediately after the scrappy rebels in Harry Potter.
The Buy of the Phoenix harnesses the electric power of social media to mobilize political action, focusing on electing responsive general public servants, obtaining excellent legislation handed, and demanding methods of injustice. Less than Norman’s management, the group has grown to 7,500 associates, and has (amongst other issues) registered voters, canvassed for candidates, recruited poll personnel, furnished election protection and specified community commentary at council meetings. Angela Reynolds, PhD, CEO of YWCA Better Pittsburgh and 2020 ATHENA Award Recipient, wishes you to know Ayisha Morgan-Lee’s tale:
Ayisha Morgan-Lee, EdD, carries on to be grateful that in 2005, a lot less than 6 months immediately after completing her Bachelor’s Degree in Dance from Howard University, she was brave and self-confident sufficient to develop into the Founder, CEO, and Creative Director of Hill Dance Academy Theatre (HDAT), a non-revenue focused to arts training. Now, 16 years afterwards, HDAT has touched the lives of many Black and Brown kids, ages 3 to 18, who aspire to careers in dance. HDAT is one of a kind as the only Black dance academy in Pittsburgh giving training for professions in all dance genres to Black and Brown college students. Dr. Ayisha Morgan-Lee’s management and vision for a just, equitable and inclusive dance ecology highlight her continued determination to her students, and the Black dance sector. Her existence as CEO of HDAT and her enthusiasm to build dance job opportunities for little ones and youth are beneficial assets for Pittsburgh’s cultural arts sector.
